Floating signifiers

October 31, 2011 by Kristen

His words were velvet
A delicious confection
He knew how to hold them
My eyes
Those dramatic pauses
Like everything else
master of his craft.
He knew how to use them
all spun and twisted
kaleidoscope art
reflection off mirrors

But you.

Your words faltered,
Without calculation
Heart in mouth
A melancholy meter
What is this poetry?
Of wrong rhetoric
and patternless rhythm
Words strung together
Roots I can’t trace
Coming in color
Spelled in hieroglyphics
My native tongue
